How to Open a Paypal Account

By John Stevens

  • Overview

PayPal is an Internet company that allows its members to send and receive money in a secure manner. A member of PayPal can use the account to shop worldwide and transfer cash to virtually anyone with an email address. Transactions are also secure with PayPal as they offer complete protection against unauthorized payments.
    • Step 1

Click on the "Sign Up" link on PayPal's home page (see Resources below).
    • Step 2

Provide your legal first and last name in the appropriate fields. The name you provide must match the name on your required credit or debit card, as described in Step 7.

    • Step 3

Provide your mailing address. This address must be the physical address where PayPal can reach you. PayPal will not accept a P.O. box as an address.
    • Step 4

Provide the phone number where you can be reached most easily. This is the phone number that PayPal will use to contact you in the event that there is some problem with your account.
    • Step 5

Select a password that contains at least eight characters and enter this password into the required field.
    • Step 6

Enter your email address into the required field. The email address that you choose will be necessary to access your PayPal account.
    • Step 7

Provide the account information for either a credit card or a debit card if you would like to make payments with your PayPal account.
    • Step 8

Answer the two security questions when prompted. Examples of a security question that you might be asked include the name of the city you were born in and your mother's maiden name.
