There is the peppermint fragrance. You want something that has pure peppermint oil and peppermint leaves. You don't want anything with artificial scents or fragrances. They are really bad for you. That stuff is all manmade, and it is absorbed into your body. Because it is absorbed into your body it gets into the food you eat, as well. You would be surprised of the chemicals people are allowed to put in their food. You may think you like a flavoring in a certain food; however, to get that flavoring the company probably used artificial chemicals. All of these things can really mess up the continuity of the body. Our products only contain ingredients from nature.
Q: So if I buy an apple scented soap from you, it will contain natural apples?
Yes. We haven't done that scent actually, but if we did we would ground up the apples. It's the same thing with an orange scent. A lot of people grind up orange peel and put it in their soap. There are a lot of essential oils that you can get off of the fruits.
Q: How much fruit fragrance do you have to put in the soap?
It's a trial and error kind of process. A lot of books will tell you how much you can put in, how much they use, and how much other people use. The best thing to do is experiment and see how strong you like it. You have to watch out. If you make it too strong, it can actually affect the properties of the actual bar, soap, or lotion.
Q: Should a person record the recipes they experiment with?
Yes. You have to keep a journal of everything you are doing. You write down how it turns out, and that's the best way to make good progress. If people are going to get some books on making natural soap, it may take around two months to come up with a recipe that works. For some people, it may take even longer. It just depends how much time they want to put into it. Keep in mind, with natural soaps you are not going to come out with a strong aroma like with soaps at the grocery store.
