Organize your move and you'll get better results.
It's that time again. You really didn't want to do it, or maybe you really do want to, because you're moving up in the world. Moving and all the boxes, junk, and physical work that goes along with it. How do you survive one of life's top ten traumatic events--once again?
How Do I Get There?
Moving takes planning and organization; and depending on how much "stuff" you possess--a lot of boxes, as we all know. If you think you'r e going to be moving within the next two to three months, begin collecting boxes. It may seem premature or even a little crazy, but when you need boxes, they're not available, right? So, have them at your disposal a bit ahead of time. If you happen to have some extra space, try separating the boxes so that they have their own spot in the house away from everything else.
Let's Start
Another crazy idea. Here it goes: begin packing two to three months in advance for your move. Yes. Packing. What about all of those trinkets that you have on your buruea, or the hummel collection in your cabinet, or even those tools that are strewn all over the garage? Start packing them. Now. Of course, you cannot begin packing everything, as, obviously, you need some of these things in your day-to-day routine. But, use some common sense, and "get rid of" those things that are strictly in the way that will take up too much time later, if you had held off on packing them.
Packing Materials
Boxes are your first priority. Boxes may be purchased at your local department or drug store and can also be ordered through the mail (the post office usually sends this information when changing your address). Packing tape is next, and with this tape, you will need a permanent marker to either label the tape or the box itself. I wouldn't recommend labeling the box itself, because sometimes boxes get changed and reused. Also, a good, big, role of bubble wrap is a mandatory packing staple. Bubble wrap is perfect for all of those very delicate and breakable things that you need to protect. A box of rubber bands is handy, and even a stack of newspapers may be used as filler or for wrapping. Any large, plastic, storage containers are very useful for clothes or even the really heavy things that would ordinarily break a normal cardboard box.
Other Little Details
Have you figured out when your lease is up and when you can move into your new place? Make sure that these details are taken care of pronto. You do not want to run into confusion on your way to your new destination. Do you have the address of your new place? Do you have your landlord's number? If you're looking for deals on moving trucks, this is a good idea. Moving trucks are expensive to rent; so, compare prices of a weekday move to a weekend move. There may be a significant difference depending on the service. Do you have a family member(s) or a friend to help you? If you do, it's a plus, and will cut down on expenses.
Don't Forget
One final tip: Do not forget to notify old employers of your new address, as tax forms ARE NOT FORWARDED to a new address. If this happens to you, you can still claim a copy of your tax form later on, but try to avoid the inconvenience of this if you can.
