Most people who visit Melbourne like the beach, swimming, and boating. We have some tour boats along the Indian River that allow you to see nature and special bird nesting sanctuary areas. We have sailing and jet skies as well because most of the people who come here spend a lot of time on the beach or shopping. Signs and warnings are sometimes put up to discourage people from swimming in the ocean during tropical storm season. We recently had one drowning and one near drowning. During the summer we have lifeguards on the main public beaches. Boardwalk is the most popular public beach. Melbourne Beach is another. The beach along Patrick Air Force Base has beach front parking, so that's where most of the surfers go. The other big surfing beach is Sebastian Inlet State Park. If you like to watch surfing, that's the place to go. There are surfers there all the time.
