Paper Twist Angels

How to make Paper Angel Ornaments using leftover pieces of paper twist.

These are cute little angels to make for Christmas tree ornaments or anywhere that you have room for a little hanging angel. Also a great project to make with your children and uses leftover pieces of paper twist and assorted trims.

For each angel you will need;

1-inch wooden ball

½-yard main color paper twist - these really look cute using the iridescent paper twist

4-inches coordinating color paper twist

4-inches of either white or tan paper twist

small bit of Spanish Moss

gold thread, ribbon or fishing line

small bits of 1/8-inch wide satin ribbon

assorted trims

glue or hot glue gun

Using the main color paper twist cut a 7 ½-inch piece, a 1 ½-inch piece and a 5-inch piece. Untwist all paper twist with the exception of the white or tan twist.

Cut the 1 ½-inch main color twist piece into five 1/4 x 3 inch strips. Set on strip aside for use with the wings.

Fold the 7 ½-inch main color piece crosswise in half. Gather and pinch the ends together and insert into the hole in the wooden bead (this will be your head). Glue this in place and set aside.

Using the untwisted white/tan piece of twist, starting and ending 1/4-inch from the end take the 1/4-inch strips of main color twist and wrap the "arm" securing ends with glue. This will make the sleeves to your dress. Insert the "arms" into the dress, just under the bead "head" and glue in place.

Make a loop using either the gold thread, fishing line or ribbon, simply tie off into a knot. Glue by the knot just slightly inside the hole of the bead "head" at the top.

Glue Spanish Moss to the bead "head" being sure to cover the hole, but make sure that you don't catch your hanger in the glue.

To make your wings, center the 4-inch coordinating piece of twist over the 5-inch main color piece of twist. Now pinch together in the center and wrap with your leftover 1/4-inch piece of main color. Glue tightly. With your coordinating twist facing the front, glue your "wings" on the back of your angel.

The last step before decorating is to make a 1/8-inch ribbon "halo" and glue it around your angels head at about forehead level.

Now decorate, using bits of trim, ribbon and miniatures. She can hold numerous items in her "hands" such as mini wreaths, Christmas lights, small cutout paper hearts and other numerous things.

I hope you enjoy making these cute little angels as much as I do!
