You can easily reduce your credit card debt with little or no sacrifice. The average American has $7,000 worth of debt.

The first step to credit card freedom is to stop using your cards. If you do use your card, make sure you pay the amount before the grace period ends. Look on your credit card statement for more details or call your credit card company. If you have no grace period, you would benefit from changing your cards.

Ask the credit card Company to lower your credit limit. If you can't resist temptation, you can prevent your self from spending an excess amount.



Ask the credit card Company to lower your interest rates. If they refuse to do so, switch cards or tell them you are going to switch cards they may change their decision.

Pay more than the minimum payment. Look at the difference between your minimum payment and finance charges, there may be only a few dollars difference. Try paying an extra $50 a month to lower the amount on your credit card. It will be an extra $600 a year you pay off. In addition, the finance charges will become lower.

If you have multiple cards, pay the card with the highest interest rate first. This is not counterproductive. By paying off the highest card first, you save money from the interest the credit card charges.

Use the money from your savings account to pay off your credit card. Chances are you earn less money in interest than you pay on your credit card. You save money on interest this way. Once you finish paying off your credit card, put the money back into your savings account.

By using these techniques, you save money in interest. Try cutting back on the movies and restaurants. You will appreciate it in the long run.
