Rating
In the Lone Star State you can't escape the image of a five-point star. Here an iron stair railing is adorned with several of these stars.
  • Pictures of majestic buildings in downtown Chicago. Chicago's famous Wrigley building stands in the foreground.
  • Two bridges span the mighty Mississippi River at Vicksburg, Mississippi.
  • This clock tower sits atop Seminary Hall at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. This clock face is unique because the numbers are written in Cherokee. The Cherokee clock face is an homage to the building's history. In 1889 it was opened as the new building for the Cherokee Female Seminary (the first building burned in 1887). It served as a Cherokee Nation dormitory school until Oklahoma statehood when the Cherokee Nation was dissolved. In 1909, Oklahoma opened the school as a state university.
  • The little town of Szentendre, Hungary is primarily an artist community today, but the old homes which line narrow cobblestone roads were once built by Serbian refugees in an architectural style more common in the Balkans and southern Europe than in Hungary.
  • This photos shows the complete remodel of a bathroom in a 1946 bungalow home. The bathroom was rotting and termite infested and it sported a 1970s shade of yellow before demolition of reconstruction. Now the floor features black and white hexagonal tile and the walls sport white subway tile. The shower head mimics the look of a clawfoot shower, but the design is modernized with a curbless walk in shower that also serves to make the bathroom feel larger.
  • This large stone fireplace is found in the replica of Vann's Tavern at New Echota State Park, Georgia.
  • This log cabin is a replica at the Oconaluftee Indian Village. It recreates the Cherokee homes of the 1750s in the Great Smoky Mountains.
  • This home, also known as the Dog Iron Ranch, was the birthplace of humorist Will Rogers (the Cherokee Kid) in 1879. Located just north of Oologah, Oklahoma the home is an example of Greek Revival architecture.
  • The historic Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin features unique Longhorn gargoyles on it's facade.
  • In the Lone Star State you can't escape the image of a five-point star. Here an iron stair railing is adorned with several of these stars.
  • Vajdahunyad Castle is located in Városliget (City Park) in Budapest, Hungary. The castle was never actually a residence for royalty but was a display castle built of cardboard in 1896 for the Hungarian Millennial Exhibition. The castle was so popular it was later rebuilt of stone. Each section of the castle represents a different era of architectural style during Hungary's first one thousand years.
