Picking Color, Design, And A Siding Contractor

Picking Color, Design, and a Siding Contractor. When deciding on what house siding you should buy, choosing the right color, design, and siding contractor should be some of your concerns. You can have colors...

You can have colors and designs picked out before you decide on a siding contractor, but it may be a good idea to hold off on your ideas until you find the right person for the job. Scott Seiler, Marketing Director for ABC Seamless, says finding the right siding contractor is the most important part of the whole process.

"One, you want to investigate the company. You want to make sure that they have workman's comp insurance, because there are so many fly by night companies. Accidents happen, so you want to make sure they have that, because then, your homeowner's insurance is responsible. You want to make sure that they have liability insurance, as well. The third thing is to make sure that they have a contractor's license number. Every contractor needs to register with the state in which they do business. If they are not registered, that would be a telltale sign. The other thing is to maybe get a list of homes that the contractor has done in the past year," Seiler says.

Once you've asked all the right questions, and you are now comfortable with your siding contractor, you can then begin focusing on what colors and designs you want. Seiler says there is so much to choose from. Not every siding contractor offers the same products, so make sure you like their designs and colors before choosing someone.

"We have 17 colors right now and we have never discontinued a color. That's our strong suit. There are these companies out there who may be selling a nice soft pastel or something for one year, and then it is discontinued. So, if you have to have a repair five years on down the road, or 10 years on down the road, you can't get that same color again. With us, we have had all of our colors since the beginning. We have never discontinued a color. So if repair is needed, or if there is damage done by a tornado or hail, it can be fixed," Seiler says.

The other option is adding your own color to siding, although Seiler says this can be a problem with some companies.

"You can also paint the siding. You have to go through certain procedures, and it can void the warranty," Seiler says.

Make sure you ask your siding contractor about painting, if you are thinking about doing it in the future. That way you know exactly where you stand.

Next, you have to consider the different siding designs. This can take a long time, because there are many options to choose from.

"We have different sizes of panels; you are looking at probably over 100 combinations. It varies with different businesses. Some people like the narrower siding and some people like the wider siding. When you combine that with different styles, I mean you just have a multitude of opportunities to select from," Seiler says.

Once you've picked your siding contractor, color, and design, you will be on your way to giving your house a new facelift, and you can be proud that you had a part in it.
