The most widely known piece of equipment is the reformer, which is interesting because they are so expensive. You can find them online for a couple of hundred bucks, but believe me, you don't want those, because they pop above the floor. There is also the cadillac which looks like a big massage table with like a trapeze over it. It can be converted into a sliding carriage and be a reformer. That type is about $6000 and uses springs with your own body weight to create a scenario where you can perform different actions that elongate your spine and roll out your spine to create flexibility in places where it is rigid. There is also the electric chair, which is a kind of wacky name for piece of equipment, especially since they were developed during wartime. It looks like a wooden box with springs inside of it. There's the Wunda Chair with bands that you can use. There is the magic circle, which is simply a ring of steel with pads on either end. There are also the big Pilates balls that you can buy at Wal-Mart. There are other pieces of equipment, but they are not as widely known, so I'll just stick with these. To tell you the truth, the most challenging way and cheapest way to do Pilates is to do it with just a mat on the floor. There's no excuse not do keep up your routine when traveling.
