There are so many downhill ski mountains to choose from in New Hampshire. Some of the pros and cons of each one will help you to pick which one to go to.
Downhill skiing in New Hampshire is extremely popular and fun to do. With all the choices of mountains to go to it is tough to decide which one is best. Some of the pluses and problems with various mountains in NH will help make the choice easier to figure out.
Many of the mountains center around North Conway New Hampshire. Some of the ones in that area include Mount Cranmore, Mount Attitash, Wildcat Mountain, and Black Mountain.
Wildcat and Attitash are a little north of North Conway and are great mountains to go to. Wildcat Mountain has very challenging trails and can be rather steep in places. The one negative is that it can be icy at times. The crowds are generally not huge there so lift times can be minimal.
Attitash Mt is a good overall family mountain to visit. They have a mixture of trails for all abilities. The crowds can get a little large at times though as many people view it as a social mountain more than a ski area. Some advanced skiiers mention that the terrain is not difficult enough.
Black Mountain in Jackson is a ways from North Conway but is a nice mountain to visit. The extra cross country trails at Black attract different styles of skiies but their mountain has some great downhill trails as well. It is not usually packed and is an enjoyable place.
Mount Cranmore is right in the heart of North Conway and is another great family mountain to go to. The diverse area offers something for everyone and can be a super place for anyone to visit.
Cannon Mountain is a little further north and is viewed as one of the most challenging areas in NH. It is steep and has some very advanced trails. It is a delight for intermediate to advanced skiiers.
Mad River Glen is much the same as Cannon Mountain in the level of ability, but can be at times less groomed and more natural than Cannon is. It is also a great place for advanced skiers.
Gunstock Mountain is a smaller mountain more in the Southern area of NH. It is generally less expensive than some of the other mountains and can be a great place to zip to for a half a day of skiing or night skiing. Some people consider it quite a bit less challenging than other mountains but it is a great place to visit.
New Hampshire has numerous mountains to visit and truly there isn't one mountain that everyone doesn't like to go to. Some people even get a pass that has been developed where you pay for one pass, but may visit a number of the different mountains to try out them all.
