Play checkers online

Are you looking for a challenging game you can play online? Find out how youcan play a fun game of Checkers right now!

Checkers, which is also known as English Draughts, is just one of the many traditional board games you can play on the Internet. Checkers is relatively simple, being that you only need two sets of pieces and a playing board that has sixty four squares on it. However, you'll need to use some brain power to win.

The pieces are usually one set of twelve red or white colored round pieces, and twelve round black pieces. The pieces are often referred to as Men. And, the playing board consists of eight rows of squares that alternate in color between dark and light. Either the light or the dark color is used during a Checkers game; never are both colored squares used in the same game.

Many Microsoft operating systems offer Internet Checkers, as well as other games such as Hearts and Spades, in their programs. This can be really fun because you can play against an opponent who is located anywhere in the world! (Unfortunately, you can't chat online with your opponent.) Usually, this game gives you the choice of three different skill levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert. By choosing your skill level, the program can match you with another player who has the same level of play.

But, even if you don't already have a Checkers game on your computer, you can log onto the Internet and perform a search on your favorite search engine. Your search will provide you with several different interactive Checkers game sites that are free to play online. (The best game is one that has the option of choosing your skill level, of course. That way, the game will be more fair and much more fun for you!)

These Checkers games usually pit you against a computer player, but some actually have the capability for you to play against a live player. Some of these sites actually have Checkers tournament games and

championships!

To start a game of Checkers, the player who has the red Men usually begins. He or she moves one of their pieces one space. The game then continues on in an alternating fashion until one of two things happens. Either one player has captured all of the other players' Men, or, one of the players cannot move any of their pieces because they are blocked by the other color

At the start of a game, all of the pieces on both sides can only move forward to a square that is located diagonally from its present position. The Men can only move forward, never backward. As the pieces are moved forward across the playing board, they can capture their opponents' Men. To do this, their piece must be located in a square that is directly diagonal to one of your Men. Then, you pick your piece up, jump across the other colored piece, and place your piece in the square on the other side. You then remove the opponent's piece from the playing board.

If, by chance, Lady Luck smiles on you and you can jump two or more of your opponents' pieces in one move, then you can take the multiple moves.

Once you or your opponent has maneuvered a piece across the board and has reached any of the squares in the last row- which is known as the King's Row- then that piece becomes a King. A King can still only move to one space at a time. However, a King has the freedom to move forwards or backwards.

To play Checkers on the Internet, you'll use your mouse button to click on the Man that you want to move. Then, you'll click on the square that you want to move to, and the game will move it for you.

Besides playing on the Internet, you can play against members of your family, friends and neighbors if you have two or more computers that are networked together.
