Private Investigators And Infidelity

Suspect your mate of cheating? How to select a private investigator.

You are not quite sure why, but you suspect something is not right in your relationship. Your partner has been acting different, and more than once you have wondered if he is cheating but you have yet to see any definitive proof. You know you would be hurt if your loved one is unfaithful, but being unsure, afraid and suspicious can be even worse. Maybe it is not really an affair, but frequently when people suspect infidelity, there is something going on.

Short of following him around yourself, what can you do to find out if there is infidelity in you relationship? You can hire a private investigator. A private investigator, also known as a P.I. or a private detective, can help you find out whether your spouse is cheating. In addition, if your spouse is being unfaithful a private investigator can collect evidence that may be beneficial to you if you choose to file for divorce.

Before you select a private investigator, make a list of the reasons you believe your partner might be cheating. These will help the private investigator look for patterns and behaviors that will help him ascertain whether there is an affair underway. In addition, you will need to provide information about your partner's home, work and other regular activities. Since most investigators charge by the hour, having your information ready, thorough and well-organized can save you money on the investigation.

Do not indicate to your partner that you suspect him of cheating. If you plan to hire a private investigator, you should not mention your suspicions to your partner, because he might become more cautious or change his patterns, making it harder for the investigator to track him.

A private investigator may follow your partner to see where he goes and with whom. In addition, most private investigators can conduct background checks, so they can find out about not only his history but about the people with whom he is spending time.

Talk to a couple of investigation firms. Make sure you feel comfortable with the answers the investigator provides to your questions and that you are clear on any charges that might apply to the investigation. Ask about the equipment they use in their investigations. If they see your mate with another woman, will they take photos or provide other proof that you can view later? This is often important since many people are uncomfortable just taking the investigator's word for what they saw over that of their cheating mate. If you need background checks, ask about the databases and information services to which the PI subscribes.

Make sure the PI is licensed and registered in your state, or in the state where you need an investigation conducted; you can call the licensing board to confirm that the license is current and in good standing. You may also see if your local better business bureau has had any complaints lodged against the investigator. Sometimes your investigator may have extra credentials. For example, a CFE is a certified fraud examiner anda CMI is a certified master investigator.
