Proactiv Acne Medication

Proactiv is a three-step system. The main ingredient is benzoyl peroxide, which is also available in over-the-counter acne medications but not in as strong of a dose as you get from Proactiv. The entire system is used to fight bacteria and help heal the acne you may already have. Proactiv consists of prescription-grade ingredients used to exfoliate your skin, unclog your pores and kill your acne-causing bacteria while eliminating the itchiness and redness from your skin. Over-the-counter products usually deal with one skin issue at a time, but Proactiv is formatted to deal with all your skin problems at the same time.

Step 1 is a renewing cleanser. The renewing cleanser gently exfoliates your pores, allowing the benzoyl peroxide to penetrate. Apply a small amount to your dampened skin while massaging it in for one to two minutes. Rinse it off completely, then pat your skin dry. Step 2 is a revitalizing toner. Apply the revitalizing toner with a clean cotton ball or pad and allow it to dry before moving on to the next step. This will open up your pores and cleanse any dead skin cells. Step 3 is a repairing lotion. The repairing lotion fights against acne-causing bacteria with benzoyl peroxide and works as a preventative measure. This should be applied last after the cleansing and the toning. Apply a small amount to your palm and spread a thin layer over your face.

Proactiv was invented by two dermatologists--Dr. Katie P. Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields. Dr. Rodan's goal was to educate people about skin disease and to create Proactiv products that effectively treat acne and other dermatologic problems. Dr. Field's goal was to educate doctors and people on the many simple and complex problems and treatments concerning dermatology. According to the Proactiv website, anyone can get acne, from teenagers to adults. Teenagers' acne usually lasts for about seven to eight years and adult acne can last up to 20 years. Proactiv is a safe way to treat and prevent most acne problems. It is very important to use all three products together.
