How to Put Money in a PayPal Account

By Amanda Kondolojy

  • Overview

PayPal is an e-commerce business that allows patrons to transfer money over the Internet into a dedicated account either for themselves or for someone who has provided a good or service. PayPal is the preferred payment method for many Internet storefronts, including the ubiquitous eBay. Whether you are depositing money into an account for use later, or into someone else's account, the process is fairly simple and user-friendly.

  • Transferring Money Into Your Own PayPal Account

  • Step 1

Log in to your PayPal account using your e-mail address and password. If you do not have an account, you will need to get one and have "verified" status to transfer money of any kind.
  • Step 2

Go to your dashboard and click on the "My Account" tab. Then click on the "Add funds" option.
  • Step 3

Select a bank account. You should have added a bank account to PayPal when you became a "verified" PayPal user. If you have not, or if you want to add another bank account to transfer funds from, go back to "My Account" and click on the "Profile" tab to edit your account information.
  • Step 4

Input the exact numerical value you wish to transfer. Put the value in a simple format like "1,203.35" Dollar and cents signs are unnecessary. Once you have entered the correct number, click on the "Submit" button.

  • Step 5

Confirm the transfer. Review your bank account information and the amount you want to transfer and then click on the "Submit" button again. The funds should show up in your account in the next 24 to 72 hours, depending on your bank's processing speed.

    • Step 3

Enter the e-mail address of the person/company you would like to send money to. The e-mail must correspond with a PayPal account. You cannot send money through PayPal to non PayPal users.
    • Step 4

Enter the amount of money you would like to send and then select the reason why you are sending the money. Then click on the "Submit" button.
    • Step 5

Review the details of your money transfer and then click on the "Submit" button again to confirm the transaction. If any part of the transfer is incorrect, you can press the "Back" button to modify your request before hitting "Submit."
