Quality home office chairs

Selecting a home office chair is important because that is where you will spend a good portion of your time while working.

As more business people spend part of their work week at home and an increasing number of entrepreneurs establish home-based businesses, the office furniture industry continues to blossom with new products and competitive pricing.

If you are thinking about furnishing a home office, the most important piece of furniture you will need is a good office chair. That's because of the amount of time you will spend in that seat making telephone calls, working on the computer, and filling out forms or reading mail. Many executives (or small business owners, for that matter), spend up to 80% of their time performing such tasks, which is why it is vital to get a comfortable chair with solid support and flexible mobility if desired.

Office chairs come in a range of styles, sizes, and prices. For example, there is the executive leather chair or the microfibre ergonomic chair. You can get a rather large one sized for a man, another for a smaller-framed woman, and even a child-sized version. Big and tall chairs are popular as well, providing plenty of room and comfort for the sturdily-built individual.

The task chair with adjustable arms makes a good model for home use. Slim yet solid, allowing room for arms and legs and yet able to fit in a tight spot, this style is popular for those who are busy and often get up and down in the course of their business day. A steno-back chair offers a light style that goes with just about any desk or computer stand.

When selecting a chair for home use, check several important features.

1. Style. Does it look like it will fit with your office decor? Are you interested in leather, fabric, or another substance? Do you prefer a wooden bankers model? How about an imposing seat or one that takes up little space? Do you need a low back or a high back?

2. Fit. Be sure to sit in the chair to see how comfortable it is. Lean into it to check back support. Is the seat wide enough? Can it be adjusted to match your leg length? Does the seat tilt back if desired? Can it swivel? Are the arm rests secure and comfortable? All of these things may be important, depending on the nature of your job and your personality type.

3. Durability. Are the chair legs strong and secure? Do they have wheels? Does the fabric or leather seem to be made of quality materials? Is the chrome, wood, or other materials sound and solid? Does the chair have a sturdy feel when you sit down?

4. Price. Find out how much the chair costs. Then ask about discounts or sale events where the price may be reduced. Ask about the warranty, and if needed, terms of delivery. Depending on the type you want, you may be able to find one on sale for $40, although prices often range into the hundreds of dollars.

Remember that your office chair will get a lot of use and should be expected to last for some time. Put some effort into checking out the latest models at your local office supply store.
