Recipes for homemade beauty products

Some simple recipes and instructions for making natural homemade skin care and beauty produts.

Pick up any beauty product at the store and try to read the list of ingredients. Most will be unpronounceable chemicals and additives that do nothing for your skin. Making your own beauty products at home may take longer than grabbing them off a store shelf, but at least you will know exactly what is in them.

Some of the following recipes call for a few ingredients that can be found at any health food store. Brewer's yeast and turkey red oil can be picked up in bulk packaging so that you will have it ready when you need to restock your shelves.

Skin Revitalizing Face Mask.

This face mask will help restore a sallow complexion back to a healthy glow. Take 2 teaspoons of brewers yeast and mix into a thick paste with a small amount of water. Spread the mixture over your face and allow to dry. Avoid getting this to close to your eyes, as it will cause stinging. When dry, rinse your face with clear warm water. If your skin is extremely dry, add an egg yolk to the mix.

Peaches and Cream

In a blender, slowly mix one very ripe pitted and peeled peach with heavy cream until a soft, frothy cream is produced. Use this daily as a simple moisturizer to keep your skin soft and supple. Store unused cream in the refrigeration until the next use.

Papaya Peeler

The simple papaya fruit is terrific for dry and flaky skin. Simply rub the pulp of a fresh papaya all over your skin. After a few minutes, wipe off the excess with a soft cloth and then rinse with cool water.

Summer Splash

For parched skin on a hot day, try blending several springs of any type of mint with crushed ice. This can be misted on with a spray bottle or use a soft cloth to smooth over your face.

Quick moisturizer

Blend a few sprigs of mint with peeled ripe cantaloupe. This is rich in vitamins A, B and C and will help rejuvenate and rehydrate skin.

Anti-aging wrinkle cream

1 tablespoon lanolin (available at most drug stores)

2 teaspoon sweet almond oil

2 tablespoons cod liver oil - any drug store should have this

In a double boiler, melt lanolin with the sweet almond oil. Add 2 tablespoons water and allow the mix to cool. Add the cod liver oil. Use liberally before bed to help prevent wrinkles and face lines.

For best results, always apply face creams using a gentle, circular motion.

Simple Herbal Bath oils

Mix three parts turkey red oil with one part essential oil of your choosing. Lavender, chamomile and sandalwood essential oils are especially nice for relaxation.

Exfoliate Scrub

Place a handful, approximately a half cup, of rolled oats into a square of cheesecloth. Tie all the corners together to make a small package. Use this in your bath to naturally remove dead skin from both face and body.

Almond - Honey Hand Cream

2 ounces honey

4 ounces lanolin

2 ounces sweet almond oil

5 drops of your favorite essential oil or perfume

In a double boiler melt the honey and then add the lanolin and stir until completely combined. Remove from heat and allow to cool.Stir in the almond oil and your favorite scent. This is a perfect night cream for extremely dry hands.

Natural beauty products will rival those made of unknown chemicals. There is no toxicity to any of these products so they are safe to have around children and pets.

These recipes are enough to get you started. Don't be afraid to get creative. Experiment with the ingredients and you will be able to create the perfect lotions and potions for your skin.
