You don't have to go down to your local boat store and buy boat shoes. Anything with a rubber sole will provide the necessary traction. Our recommendation is a white soled shoe. We hate black soled jogging shoes because they can leave black marks. Our website-- www.Sailthesea.com has a frequently asked questions page on our instruction page. One of the questions is about the type of shoes that are best for sailing. What we hate to see is people coming down with open toed sandals. When you are on a boat for the first time you can bang your toes and bruise yourself. So we hate to see people bang their toes. We like to see tennis shoes onboard for proper protection from the elements. During the summer time in the afternoons, we recommend big water bottles and we don't allow people to have alcoholic beverages on our boats, hats, sunglasses, and good sunscreen. I can't tell you how many people come down with a navy blue polo shirt and it's 90 degrees outside and they just die. Almost everything I own is light colored for sailing. Pants don't really matter; shorts are better. It doesn't really matter but certainly light colored clothing will be much more comfortable for you.
