There are two answers to your question. If you want the dinnerware to last forever and literally it will last forever. ... well we don't know... if its going to last for 3000 years but clearly you see a lot of evidence of ancient porcelain that's still in really, really good shape. So, if you want it to last a very, very long time and pass it along from generation to generation, hand wash it, dry the dinnerware, stack it with something in between like a paper plate or coffee filter or something like that, that will protect the edge from scratching and store it in temperatures anywhere from say 10 degrees up to 150 degrees. So maybe your attic, your basement or your garage... whatever that might be and the dinnerware really will last you forever. Now having said that we test the dinnerware under pretty harsh conditions going through a thousands cycles in a dishwasher and then we compare it with new dinnerware and we found very, very slight if any kind of deterioration of the decoration or the banding. I dishwash mine and we recommend that dishwash yours. It's just that it's going to, over time; start to show some wear and tear in the dinnerware doing it that way. Our everyday dinnerware line is absolutely dishwasher safe. Everyday dinnerware is not something you probably going to keep for more than about 10 years. Some people will keep it, mine has been around and is still servicing well for 24 years and it's just sort of something I think it's too hard to give it up because it just has too many of your memories.
