I would say the Beatles from 65 until they broke up in 69 have maybe the most classic images. But there was some really, really just great stuff in the whole decade. The album art I think was really at the height of it all; it's declined since. Janis Joplin's band, Big Brother and Holding Company got R. Crumb, the famous cartoonist, to do their album cover for their album "Cheap Thrills." That's pretty highly priced album art. There's all sorts of artists who would do art work. The Velvet Underground had Andy Warhol do their art for their first album because they were associated with him at that time. He was their de facto manager for 1966-67 and their first album has a kind of real bright electric banana on the cover and it is signed Andy Warhol. The Beatles' "Revolver" album is pretty classic too with its pencil drawing and collage of photos and it's a highly priced drawing. In the late 50s, mid or early 60s, people would just slap a photo of whoever the star was on the cover and then they package a really big hit song with maybe another song and then 12-10 other tracks that are largely forgettable stuff. Elvis is a good example. His LPs just had a picture of him usually and a couple of hits and then some moderately interesting filler tracks. I like him just as much as anybody else, but if you're going to listen to music and really dig it, hopefully you know there are other songs that are good.
