Regardless of your printing habits, all ink cartridges run out of ink leaving you to buy another ink cartridge for $20 to $30. However, there is a viable and inexpensive alternative to buying new ink cartridges all the time. Refilling ink cartridges from refill kits is easy and can save you alot of money over time. Follow these simple steps to refill your Dell 7Y743 cartridges today.
The Dell 7Y743 is a versatile cartridge that fits numerous printers.
    • Step 1

Remove the ink cartridge from the printer by opening the access door and waiting until the cartridge cradle moves into position inside the access area. Flip open the cartridge cover and press down firmly on the top of the cartridge. Lift straight up on the cartridge and pull it out of the printer. Examine the ink jets on the bottom of the cartridge to see if they are clogged.
    • Step 2

Pour a bit of alcohol on a cotton swab and rub the ink jets gently to remove any dried ink. Turn the ink cartridge over and use the small drill and drill bit supplied in the refill kit to drill a hole in the top of the cartridge next to the sticker. This is your refill hole and leads directly to your ink reservoir.

    • Step 3

Fill the syringe with the amount and type of ink recommended by the chart included with your refill kit. Insert the needle into the refill hole and make sure it goes in the full length. Depress the syringe plunger and push the ink into the cartridge until no more ink will go into the reservoir. Remove the needle and rinse the syringe with water. Allow it to dry overnight and allow the cartridge to stand upright overnight as well to ensure that the reservoir fibers are saturated with ink.
    • Step 4

Replace the ink cartridge into the printer by dropping the cartridge into the cradle, snapping the cover closed, and shutting the access door. Wait until the printer recognizes the new cartridge and then run the "Clean and Align" feature located under the print properties tab. This should be done before starting a new print job.
    • Skill: Easy
    • Ingredients:
    • Ink cartridge refill kit
    • Alcohol
    • Cotton swabs
    • Tip: Refill the ink cartridges when they are still 25% full as this ensures the ink jets will not be clogged by dried up ink.
    • Warning:
    • Do not force ink into the cartridge too quickly as this could cause the ink to froth and introduce air to the reservoir, adversely affecting the print quality.
