How to Refill an Epson T0691 Ink Cartridge

By Nathaniel Miller

  • Overview

The Epson T0691 printer cartridge fits in a variety of printers, most notably the Epson Stylus edition printers used for a variety of purposes including photo printing and general office printing. This multipurpose printer cartridge comes in both color and black only and contains enough ink to print several thousand pages. However, at some point these cartridges do run out and you will need to replace them. At nearly $25 per cartridge, they are not a cheap cartridge and could easily add up if you print a lot. A viable alternative to buying brand new cartridges every time is to refill them using a refill kit. Follow these steps to begin refilling the Epson T0691 ink cartridges and start saving money today.

    • Step 1

Begin by removing the ink cartridge from the printer. Open the top of the printer and allow the cartridge cradle to stop moving. Flip open the cartridge cover and pull forward and up from the cradle. Examine the ink jets on the bottom of the cartridge to see if they are clogged with dried ink.
    • Step 2

Pour a bit of alcohol on the cotton swabs and use them to gently rub the ink jets on the bottom of the ink cartridge to remove dried ink that may be plugging the jets. Turn the cartridge over, then use the small drill bit provided in the kit to make a hole in the top of the cartridge, next to the sticker. This refill access hole is how you will fill the ink reservoir.

    • Step 3

Fill the syringe with the amount of ink recommended by the chart (provided with the kit) and insert the needle into the refill hole. Depress the plunger to inject the ink into the reservoir slowly. When no more ink will fit into the reservoir, pull the needle out and rinse the syringe with water. Allow the syringe to air dry.
    • Step 4

Insert the cartridge into the printer by dropping it into the cartridge cradle and closing the cartridge cover. Close the top of the printer and allow the printer to equilibrate. Let the print cartridge sit for several hours in this position so that the reservoir fibers can soak up the ink completely. Once you are sure the fibers are saturated, run "Clean and Align" in "Print Properties," then print a few test pages.
    • Skill: Easy
    • Ingredients:
    • Ink cartridge refill kit
    • Alcohol
    • Cotton swabs
    • Tip: Refill Epson T0691 ink cartridges when they are still 1/4 full, as this ensures ink will not dry in the ink jets and clog them.
    • Warning:
    • Do not force the ink into the reservoir too quickly because this could cause frothing and introduce air into the reservoir.
