How to Refill Epson T0691 Ink Cartridges

By Nathaniel Miller

  • Overview

The Epson T0691 ink cartridge can be used in a variety of printers and comes in both a black and color version. While paying a little over $20.00 at a retail store occasionally when you need ink does not seem that bad, those purchases can really add up over the course of a year. There is an inexpensive alternative to always buying new Epson T0691 cartridges though, and that is refilling them. Refilling ink cartridges is not difficult and can be accomplished in just a few minutes, thereby saving you several hundred dollars over the course of the year.
The HP T01690 comes in a variety of colors.
    • Step 1

Remove the ink cartridge from the printer by opening the access door and allowing the printer to bring the cartridge cradle to the access area. Flip up the cartridge cover and press down on the top of the cartridge. Lift the cartridge straight up out of the cartridge cradle. Examine the bottom of the cartridge to see if the inkjets are clogged.
    • Step 2

Pour a small amount of alcohol on a paper towel and wipe the bottom of the cartridge off to unclog any of the inkjets that might have dried ink in them. Use the small handheld drill and drill bit supplied in the ink refill kit to drill a hole in the top of the ink cartridge next to the sticker. Fill the syringe with the amount of ink recommended for your printer cartridge from the chart provided with the ink refill kit.

    • Step 3

Insert the needle of the syringe all the way into the hole and slowly but firmly press the ink into the reservoir. Push as much ink as the cartridge will take into the reservoir and then pull the syringe out of the cartridge and return the excess ink into the bottle. Rinse the syringe with water and allow to air dry. Allow the ink cartridge to sit overnight before reinstalling it in the printer by reversing Step 1. Turn the printer on and wait until it recognizes the new cartridge. Run the "Clean and Align" feature located under the "Print Properties" tab before printing anything.
    • Skill: Easy
    • Ingredients:
    • Ink refill kit
    • Alcohol
    • Paper towels
    • Tip: Refill your ink cartridges when they are still 25% full for the best results. This keeps ink from drying in the inkjets and clogging them.
    • Warning:
    • Do not push ink into the reservoir too fast as you could cause it to froth, introducing air into the reservoir chamber and negatively impacting your print quality.
