Overview
Replacing an empty ink cartridge for an HP printer can quickly become expensive, especially if the printer is used often. Furthermore, replacing an ink cartridge with a new cartridge only provides one cartridge's worth of ink before another cartridge will have to be purchased. Refill kits are readily available from most office-supply stores, and one refill kit can be used to refill the same cartridge approximately four times. -
-
Step 1
Place the ink cartridge on a surface that would not be harmed by any spilled ink, such as an old rag or paper towel.
-
Step 2
Find the HP printer ink label on the top of the ink cartridge.
Step 3
Carefully remove this label by peeling it off the ink cartridge.
Step 4
Locate the three fill holes that are now visible atop the cartridge. The top hole is for the magenta color, the left hole is for yellow and the right hole is for cyan.
Step 5
Assemble the syringe and syringe needle supplied in the refill kit.
Step 6
Insert the syringe needle into the magenta bottle from the ink refill kit.
Step 7
Fill the syringe by slowly withdrawing the syringe plunger.
Step 8
Insert the filled syringe into the top hole on the ink cartridge.
Step 9
Fill the ink cartridge by carefully depressing the syringe plunger.
Step 10
Wash out the syringe with clean water.
Step 11
Repeat Steps 6 to 10 for the remaining two colors.
