How to Refill HP Ink Cartridges

  • Overview

Many who buy ink-jets printers are surprised and outraged at the cost of replacement ink cartridges. However, for much less money, you can refill the empty ink cartridges yourself.
How to Refill HP Ink Cartridges
    • Step 1

Buy HP ink refills. Sold in stores and online, ink refill kits contain ink similar to the manufacturer's in thickness and quality so they don't damage the ink cartridge or print head. Buy a kit or refill that is labeled for your particular ink (specific to each printer).
    • Step 2

Put the empty cartridge on a newspaper or paper towel over a surface where a spill won't be a major problem.

    • Step 3

Peel back the sticker label on top of the cartridge to expose the filling hole. If needed, enlarge the hole with an eye screw.
    • Step 4

Fill the syringe with ink; 5 ml is enough for most HP cartridges. Insert the needle into the filling hole and lower the needle until you feel slight resistance.
    • Step 5

Slowly inject the ink. Once all the ink has been injected, remove the syringe and put the label back on the cartridge. Reinsert into the printer.
    • Skill: Moderate
    • Ingredients:
    • HP refill ink
    • Syringe
    • Eye Screw
    • Tip: If nothing comes out when trying to print, the cartridge may be clogged. Run a few cleaning cycles and leave the cartridge in the printer for 24 hours to allow the ink to flow down to the print head.
