How to Refill Ink Cartidges in an Epson Cx7400 Printer

By Nathaniel Miller

  • Overview

The Epson Cx7400 is an all in one printer that can send faxes, scan images, and print color copies quickly and efficiently. With all of the capabilities of this printer, it is easy to run through ink cartridges quickly and the cost of all that ink can really add up. There is an inexpensive alternative however--refilling the Epson Cx7400 ink cartridges at home. The refilling process is easy and can be completed in just a few moments, yet still increases the lifespan of your ink cartridge. Follow these simple steps to start refilling your ink cartridges today.

    • Step 1

Begin by removing the ink cartridge from the printer by lifting the top of the printer up. The printer will move the ink cartridge cradle into place. Once the cradle stops, flip open the cartridge holder and press down on the top of the cartridge. Lift the cartridge straight up out of the cradle and examine the bottom ink jets to see if they are clogged.
    • Step 2

Dampen a paper towel with the alcohol and rub the ink jets to remove any dried ink that is clogging the system. Turn the ink cartridge over and use the small drill and drill bit supplied in the refill kit to drill a hole in the top of the cartridge, next to the sticker. This is the refill access hole.

    • Step 3

Fill the syringe with the appropriate amount of ink determined by consulting the chart provided in the ink refill kit and then insert the needle fully into the refill hole. Slowly push the ink into ink reservoir until no more will go in. Pull the needle out of the cartridge and place the remaining ink back into the bottle. Rinse the syringe with water and allow it to air dry. Also allow the cartridge to sit overnight in order for the ink to fully saturate the reservoir fibers.
    • Step 4

Reinstall the ink cartridge in the printer by dropping the newly filled cartridge into the cradle and closing the cartridge cover. Close the top of the printer and allow it to recalibrate and recognize the new cartridge. Run "Clean and Align" under print properties before printing anything.
    • Skill: Easy
    • Ingredients:
    • Ink refill kit
    • Rubbing alcohol
    • Paper towels
    • Tip: Epson printers sometimes will not recognize refilled cartridges unless you reset the print chip on the cartridge using an Epson Print Cartridge resetter, available online (see Resources).
    • Warning:
    • Do not force ink into the reservoir too quickly as you could cause frothing and introduce air into the ink reservoir, negatively impacting the print quality.
