Refill Instructions for Lexmark Ink Jet Cartirdges

By Catherine Johnson

  • Overview

Maintaining your Lexmark printer can often end up costing more than the printer's original purchase price. If you buy expensive new ink cartridges several times a year, a more affordable and convenient option is to simply refill your cartridges on demand. By using one of the many cartridge refill kits that are available online, not only do you save both time and money, but you also help the environment by reducing waste.
Refill your Lexmark cartridges to save time and money.
    • Step 1

Turn your Lexmark printer on and lift up the front cover. The ink cartridge carriage should move to the center. Pull forward the top of the cartridge that you want to refill and lift it out of the carriage. Place the cartridge on the old cloths or newspapers.
    • Step 2

Using the drill, make a small refill hole on the plastic top of the cartridge. Drill the hole on the lower section of the top.

    • Step 3

If you are refilling a color cartridge, fill the syringe with 5 ml of the corresponding color ink. For refilling a black cartridge, fill the syringe with 10 ml of black ink.
    • Step 4

Place the syringe needle into the small refill hole you just created. Insert the needle deep inside the cartridge until it touches the bottom. Slowly inject the ink into the chamber and stop when the inner sponge is full. Remove the syringe from the cartridge.
    • Step 5

Cut a piece of scotch tape and securely seal the refill hole.
    • Step 6

Put the Lexmark cartridge inside a small cup for a few hours. The cup will catch any excess drips.
    • Step 7

Place the bottom of the refilled cartridge back into its carriage holder. Snap the cartridge top back into place and then close the printer cover.
