What is Reiki? How does it use the chakras to heal the body's energies? These and other questions are answered by Hope Cramer, a certified and traditionally trained Reiki Master-Teacher.
There are seven major chakras and many, many minor chakras all over the body. Reiki Master-Teachers are taught the major chakras so that they can treat almost every ailment that they come across. Chakras are located from your head to your toes, front and back.

The first chakra that most of the Reiki Master-Teachers start with is the crown chakra at the crown of the head.
"There is one that is called the third eye between and above your eyes on your forehead," Cramer says.
The next chakra that RMT's concentrate on is the throat chakra. It is said to be associated with problems in communication. Signs of poor communication are sore throats and tonsil problems. There is another chakra that is on the back of the throat that is associated with metabolism, dental problems, stiff neck, flu and migraines. It is also associated with mental awareness and expression.
Another one of the main chakras is the heart chakra. This is said to be associated with emotional problems as well as physical problems. This Reiki chakra is not necessarily right above the heart, but right in the center of the chest between the ribs. This chakra is also associated with love and relationships. If you tell your practitioner that you are dealing with relationship issues, they are going to concentrate on those areas.
"There is another one on the upper part of the stomach and one in the lower part of the stomach, then there is one at the base of the spine," Cramer says.
Chakras are all over the body and energy circulates through them all.
"The word chakra in Sanskrit actually means spinning. It's a spinning energy," Cramer says.
Some practitioners claim that Reiki uses chakras to derive focus and universal energy. There are also chakras located just above the genitals. This chakra is used to treat issues in self esteem and sexuality. It also treats any physical problems that you are having with your reproductive systems. The chakra located above the naval is used to enhance relationships in the home, family and long term relationships.
Another chakra used in Reiki therapy sessions is located above the eighth cervical vertebra opposite of the heart. This is considered the "courtyard to inner of the body temple." In the lower body region, at the base of the spine, is another chakra. This is associated with feelings of survival, safety, and ability to be grounded to the earth. Physical illnesses and conditions that can be treated with this area include constipation, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, prostate and chronic fatigue.
Reiki treatments can be done in person or over an incredible distance. A Reiki Master-Teacher does not need to have their hands over you to send the energy. When an RMT does a distance healing, they can merely concentrate on the area that they want to treat and the energy is sent.
