They are not quite the same thing but they are very closely linked. I think it's important to make a distinction between confidence and self-esteem. Confidence does not mean cockiness or arrogance. Actually that's convoluted confidence. True self-esteem does not feel the need to brag or to act arrogant. Confidence and self-esteem are linked in that when a person has a high self-esteem they are going to have more confidence and more capability to handle a variety of situations. That's really all that confidence is. It is a not the feeling that you can do anything and succeed but that you have the capability to handle the situation at hand or being able to say I don't know or I can't do this.
