Step 1
Rent a carpet cleaning machine from a grocery store. Many grocery stores such as Publix and Albertson's have carpet machines available for rent. You can rent the machine for as long as you want and pay for the amount of time you have it checked out. Make sure to purchase the appropriate soap that goes in the machine. The soap should be located right by the machines. You will have to fill out a form at the customer service desk to rent the machine.

Step 2
Go to a home repair store, such as Home Depot. Here, knowledgeable staff can answer questions. The store may sell the machine you are choosing to rent as well, so if you really like it, you can buy the same type of machine right off the shelf. Do not forget to purchase soap to go in the machine. You will likely have to sign a rental agreement.

Step 3
Visit a rental center. Rental centers offer all kinds of things, including carpet machines. Depending on the particular center, soap may or may not be offered, so you might have to purchase it at a separate location. Some rental centers even deliver the carpet cleaner to your home. There will more than likely be an extra charge for delivery.

Step 4
Rent a carpet cleaning machine at a super center such as Walmart. These stores will more than likely offer an extremely competitive rate.
