Overview
If you use a computer on a regular basis, the best thing that you can do is to familiarize yourself with each component. It is frugal to learn all you can about the components that you have. One of the components that needs more attention than any of the others is your printer. Knowing the life expectancy of your ink cartridges will help keep your workflow running smoothly. Since there are differences even with the Epson printers themselves, this article will cover installing cartridges in an Epson CX3800. A little research will reveal that most of the Epson printers have the same type of cartridge with the installation varying just a little between models.

Step 1
Facing your printer, carefully lift the top and locate the ink cartridge carriage that holds the ink cartridges. On the left side of the printer, right underneath the power button, locate a small button with a teardrop image just to the right of it. -
Step 2
Press and hold that button for one second or longer. The carriage will move slowly across the width of the printer. -
Step 3
If the carriage does not come to the right side of the printer or you can't lift the cover of the carriage, press the "Teardrop" button one more time. This will cause the carriage to move into a position where you can access the cartridge cover. -
Step 4
Carefully lift the cover of the carriage to expose the tops of the cartridges for removal. You'll notice a clip on and the front of the cartridges. -
Step 5
Squeeze the clip to release the cartridge from the carriage with your thumb and forefinger and remove the old cartridge. Place a new cartridge in its place by gently pushing down into place. Once you have replaced or installed all the cartridges, push the "Teardrop" buttom to return the carriage to its resting place.
