Sarasota County has the most highly rated restaurants in Florida. A lot of great restaurants and chefs come to this area to open business because we are known as the cultural coast. Of course I am biased but on the beaches there is waterfront dining and some very expensive, nice. You will find some of the best dining around. We have a group in town called the Sarasota Original. Their website is serasotaoriginal.com, and it's an association for your non-chain related restaurants that are Sarasota. That is a great resource to use if you don't want a typical chain restaurant.
As far as food you will find a little of everything, such as Mexican, Thai, and Chinese. Peruvian food is trendy and a huge hit right now. There are a couple of restaurants that have opened up in the last two years where the chefs are from Peru.
