Richmond is not only Virginia's capital city it's a kid-friendly place. Whether you're visiting or living in Richmond, you'll find a myriad of things for kids to do. Here are some places and activities that will please children of all ages.

The Children's Museum of Richmond provides excitement and adventure for children and adults. It is specifically designed to give kids hands-on interaction while they learn about the world around them. The museum has a Play Works section which is equipped with a bank, supermarket etc. The Stage Play feature encourages kids to dress up and act. The In My Own Backyard section is full of fun and adventure for toddlers. The museum also has a 40-foot replica of a Virginia limestone cave. Kids can climb around the cave while they pretend to be explorers. The museum also offers camp-ins on specific dates throughout the year. During this time kids can enjoy the thrill of staying overnight at the museum.

The Science Museum of Virginia is a great place for children to explore while they learn. Exhibits are interactive, educational, and fun. The Parlor Tricks room is full of optical illusions, which makes it a great science adventure. The Science Museum also houses the Ethyl Universe Theater, which includes both a planetarium and the OMNIMAX. It has a five-story domed screen that captivates kids and gives them a true-to-life experience.

Children of all ages will also enjoy visiting The Virginia Aviation Museum. It has numerous activities for kids including a flight simulator. The Mystery Café for Kids is an intriguing place for children to visit. The Café offers an interactive musical mystery for kids. After the half-hour show, the children are treated to a pizza lunch.

If you have artistically inclined kids, then you'll want to visit The Children's Art Resource Center, situated in the Museum of Fine Arts. The Center hosts performances and hands on art activities for children of all ages. The Center also offers inspiring art workshops for families. The Hand Workshop Art Center also provides kids with classes in painting, quilting and a variety of interesting crafts that will give expression to their creative personalities.

Preteen or teenagers will enjoy participating in the Chesterfield Parks and Recreation programs. The activities provided include rock climbing, kite flying, Frisbee toss games, and skiing.

There are more than 40 Richmond area parks. The most kid-oriented are Byrd Park, Gillies Creek Park, Travelland Park, and Bryan Park. Some of these parks offer programs that are centered around adventures on the James River. Kids can go inner tubing, snorkeling, swimming, and kayaking. The Bryan Park has an area for soccer, games, and a play area for toddlers.
