Road Rage Facts

An increasing problem on our raods is Road Rage.Learn how you can cope with road rage and also how to handle someone who has road rage.

As you sit in peak hour traffic, wondering how long it is going to take for you to get home, some idiot comes right up behind you, honking his horn, then all of the sudden, he pulls out from behind you, only to cut into a small gap, that is in between you and the car in front of you.

How do you react? Does your collar start to tighten up, as you can feel your head turning red? Are you feeling that you can jump out of your car and really give it to him? If you do, then maybe you have a problem with a condition called road rage. What if it was he who was getting real irate with you, how would you handle the situation? Would you fight back and give him a piece of your mind?

Road rage is so widespread now that a 1996 report on driving habits in Britain, claimed that it has "reached epidemic" proportions, "˜ with almost half of all drivers experiencing some form of attack or abuse.' What are the causes behind road rage? If you are affected, how can you protect yourself? Or if someone makes you mad, what can you do about it?



What if you are the victim? What can you do about it? If someone is desperately trying to get ahead of you, just let them. If you try and hold them up, it will cause more problems than it is worth. A simply friendly gesture to let them know that you have upset them is likely to help make them feel better about things and cool down.

Keep your doors locked and windows shut, this will help prevent any attacks when you pull up at intersections etc. Try and avoid eye contact with the person that is angry with you. If you make eye contact with him or her it might make them think that you want to fight back.

Well, how will you avoid getting angry yourself? The first thing to remember is that all drivers do make mistakes, including yourself. Think back on the times that you have made mistakes while driving and try to look on it in a humorous way.

Do your passengers sometimes tell you to calm or slow down? Listen to their advice, as they will see more about you than you do yourself. Remember that a calm attitude while on the road, is healthier for you, and may help you to live longer. Remember that while others may be prone to road rage, you don't have to follow them. Keep yourself calm and stress free while driving.

These ideas are not new, but they do work. Many studies and articles have suggested different ways in which we can overcome road rage. Why not take the time to go through these and try and apply what you read. So the next time you are stuck in traffic wondering how long it is going to take you to get home, why not just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride instead of causing yourself more problems than are worth it.
