Rochester Minnesota is located in the South East quadrant of Minnesota. It's about an hour of south of Minneapolis/St. Paul, the twin cities. Rochester is the second largest metro area in Minnesota and home to the world famous Mayo Clinic.

Oddly enough, Dr. William Mayo came here to conduct physicals for recruits joining the Civil War. He was here during the tornado disaster of 1863. Basically the entire southeastern area of Minnesota needed a hospital, so he teamed up with the local nuns to found St. Mary's Hospital. The nuns acted as nurses then. William and his brother Charlie then founded the Mayo Clinic which started to develop a reputation for surgical excellence and innovation. That reputation continues today, and in fact, we just added a building for genomic study. The Mayo Clinic has grown into the world's largest private medical clinic. The Mayowood Mansion, Plummer House of Art, and Olmsted Historical Center all point back to the Mayo brothers. From them, a kind of legend was born.
