First of all, there is the step, taking care of your legs and joints when you are running and also breathing. Through eight paces or eight strides, you should breathe in and breathe out. In other words, breathe in on "one" and count "two, three, and four." Then, breathe out on "one" and count "two, three, four." That is a good way to control your breathing. Don't let your breathing become like gasps, because that's going to make you hyperventilate. It also helps to just think about the next step, don't think about the full distance you are running. Don't think about how tired it is going to make you. Don't think about anything but the next step. If you are in a competitive race, do not think about the crowd; just think about the next step because the next step is always easier to do. Don't run in the heat of the day, except if you are in very good training condition, because obviously you can dehydrate and develop some problems that way.
