Where to Sell a Junk Car in Virginia

By Victoria Ries

  • Overview

Junk cars lower the tone of any neighborhood and are best towed away by a company offering cash to haul off your vehicle to the junkyard. Most cash offers are for junk cars that haven't been picked over and have clean titles.
    • Step 1

Check out Chasen Carz Towing and Recovery (see Resources). Chasen Carz offers cash for any vehicle and hauls off your junk for free.
    • Step 2

Place an advertisement in the Northern Virginia Daily Online (see Resources). You'll need a credit card, or you may place your ad using a PayPal account for payment. Running a photo with your ad costs a little extra.

    • Step 3

Call Fisher's Towing. It pays $100 for your junk car with or without a title and will haul it away. All you need is a document of proof of ownership that bears the VIN number of the junk vehicle to be towed away. Located at Broad St., Richmond Virginia, Fisher's Towing's phone number is (804) 218-2146.
    • Step 4

Fill out the online form at BuyMyWreck (see Resources). BuyMy Wreck purchases and tows away junk and used vehicles nationwide. The purchase value is based on the salvage value of your junk car.
    • Step 5

Visit IBuyJunkVehicles (see Resources). Follow the directions for contacting a vendor to come and pick up your vehicle. You will then receive cash for that vehicle. Vendors willing to pick up vehicles are wanted nationwide.
    • Step 6

Remove all of your personal effects from the vehicle to be junked before the towing crew arrives. This will save last-minute panic and keep the towing crew on schedule. Have the title of the vehicle ready to sign away, or any document that is needed to complete the transaction. Move any other junk away from the vehicle that might impede the speedy removal of the vehicle.
    • Skill: Moderately Challenging
    • Tip: Don't forget to look under the seats and between the folds of upholstery for anything that may have slipped down and been forgotten.
    • Warning:
    • Always make sure the junk dealer is sincere, reputable, and won't stiff you for the cash.
