How Do You Sell a Timeshare on eBay?

By Jade Balle

  • Overview

In the past, timeshares were minimized as useless and a bad investment. However, with more people looking to save money on their family vacations, timeshares are seen as a valuable alternative to expensive long-term hotel stays. The process of selling your timeshare has become more straightforward and successful with the growth of eBay and other online sales outlets.
    • Step 1

Take great pictures of your timeshare or get pictures from your real estate agent. Make sure the pictures include both interior and exterior shots, including the front of the house, the kitchen, bathroom, living area, and backyard (if applicable).
    • Step 2

Write down all of the pertinent information regarding your timeshare, including the city and state where it is located, special features, the size of the timeshare, and any maintenance fees.

    • Step 3

Decide how you want to sell the timeshare. Determine how many weeks per year your timeshare desired listing price be based on and for how many years.
    • Step 4

Open an ebay Account and a linked Paypal account. You will need to give pertinent information so that buyers will be able to contact you and so that ebay can hold you responsible for your obligations. Paypal is now run by the same company as Ebay. When your account application is done, you will be logged in.
    • Step 5

Roll over the "Sell" tab which is in the right top corner of your browser at eBay. Go down and click on "Sell an Item." On the next page, click on "Start Selling."
    • Step 6

In the "Find a Matching Category" box type in "Timeshares." You will likely see a section called "Real Estate" with several options beneath it. Click on "Timeshares for Sale" or the closest option to what you are selling, then press "Continue."
    • Step 7

Fill out all of the pertinent information regarding your listing that you identified in Step 2. Be as detailed as possible. Upload your pictures from Step 1 to the listing page. Decide on a starting price that your buyers will see as reasonable based on the location and condition of the timeshare.
    • Step 8

Write a personalized description of your timeshare that will attract your potential buyer's attention. Make sure that you are clear, honest and to the point about the timeshare. It also helps to identify the person or people who the timeshare would most appeal to, so that you can tailor your message directly to them.
    • Step 9

Complete your listing and look over the finished page on eBay. Promptly answer any questions from potential buyers as they come in.
    • Skill: Moderate
    • Tip: Be completely honest in your listing.
    • Tip: Take a few minutes before putting up your listing to learn the ropes of eBay. Look at the listings of power sellers to find out what is working for them.
    • Warning:
    • Don't price your timeshare listing too high.
    • Don't list your timeshare unless you have all of your paperwork regarding this piece of real estate in order.
