    Many vehicle owners in Colorado decide to sell their own car. The benefit to selling your own vehicle is that you may get a higher price than trading the car in to a dealership. But if you haven't sold a used vehicle in Colorado before, having a few tips can help. Investing time in research and developing a marketing plan for your car will get your vehicle sold quicker.

    • Step 1

      Research comparable vehicle prices in the state of Colorado. You can check your city's community newspaper or search larger papers like the Denver Post. Also, check out Kelly Blue Book online. They will adjust your vehicle's value when you enter your zip code.

    • Step 2

      Put together an advertising plan for selling your vehicle. Place flyers at local grocery stores such as City Market Food and Pharmacy or Wild Oats Natural Marketplace. Also, you can take out ads with online companies such as Car Soup and Cars Direct and place a free listing in the Colorado section on Craig's List.

    • Step 3

      Get your car detailed and complete all repairs. If your vehicle is dirty and has broken items, buyers will think the car isn't well maintained. In addition, they will try to negotiate the price down because of the condition. Wash your vehicle's exterior and clean the interior with a steam cleaner. Empty all personal items from the vehicle and make sure the tires and rims are clean and shiny.

      Put a sign in the window and park your vehicle in high traffic areas. Do this on the weekends if you need your car for daily use. Make sure your phone number is in bold print and easy to read.

      Print the Colorado title transfer forms. These are available at the DMV's website and need to be filled out when selling your vehicle. You and the seller complete the forms and mail them into the DMV to complete the transaction.
