Setting Goals For Your Life

How to set short and long term goals to get the things you want in life.

There are so many things you want to do in your life, but you don't know how to get started to do them. The first step is to decide what you want.

You can't get what you want in life, if you don't know what that is.

The next step is to set some goals for what you want in your life. A goal is a destination usually set for a certain amount of time that you want to attain something in. The best way to achieve your goals is to write them down. Putting them on paper will make it realistic. You can set goals for every phase of your life, from career, money, marriage, weight loss and anything else you want to accomplish in your life.

The best way to start setting goals is to start with short term goals. These are goals that you can accomplish in a short period of time. Start off with goals for every three months. Make them something practical that can be done within that three month time frame. That way you will feel like these goals are workable.



If you start off with something that you know can't be done within that time frame, you will not succeed and this will make you feel like setting goals is a waste of time, when in essence you have made it not reachable. Start with something simple and small to get you into the habit of setting goals and reaching them. At the beginning of each year set goals of things you want to accomplish for that particular year. These are usually about five things you might want to do before the year is over. Long term goals are usually set for a five year period. These goals are more difficult and not able to reach overnight.

Usually long term goals are for major job changes and serious financial situations that you want to have accomplish for your future security. Everyone should set five year goals for where they want to be within a five year age increase.

These goals are usually only a few goals, whereas short terms goals can be from five to fifteen things you might want to accomplish within that year.

Setting goals is a good habit to have in your life. It can give you guidance on what you want and where you want to be. Writing down your goals and looking at them will give you motivation to accomplish all the things you want in your life. List anything you want to do. Don't think some things are not worth listing.

If it's something you want to do like buy three CD's once a month, set your goal for that on your three month goal list. If this will keep you on track with even something that small, set it as a goal. Nothing is to small or large to set as your goal. Once you start setting your goals and accomplishing them, you should cross them off your list each time when something is done and you will feel great.

This will make you feel like you are going in the right direction you want to be in with accomplishing the things you want in your life. Setting goals is the guidance we need in our lives to get us what we want.
