Shopping In Eureka, California

Shopping in Eureka, California. The #1 thing to shop for here is arts and crafts. There are so many practicing artists here and they need a place to sell their stuff. Prices tend to be very, very low here for original artwork.

We do have a modern shopping mall here in south Eureka, but the best shopping is in Old Town Eureka, which is a original commercial district that has been completely restored full of boutiques, museums, restaurants, and galleries. The #1 thing to shop for here is arts and crafts. There are so many practicing artists here and they need a place to sell their stuff. Prices tend to be very, very low here for original artwork. For example, one store, Humboldt's Finest, specializes in locally produced arts and crafts where you might find a handmade redwood table, a jewelry box beautifully finished, local glass work, locally made jewelry, that kind of product.

When you walk up and down the town, there is only one chin store in the entire district and that is Restoration Hardware. We can get away with that because this is where it was started. A similar district is Main Street in Ferndale, a Victorian village south of Eureka. They have some beautiful boutiques in original Victorian buildings. One is called the Blacksmith Shop and it's a gallery of iron works. They have everything from fireplace hardware and tools to custom cutlery, anything you can think of made out of metal. Also in Ferndale is Golden Gate Mercantile, an old general goods store where you can buy everything from rock candy to mustache wax to cast iron cookware. Some of the goods there are reproduction and some of them are actual original items found in storage - it's like going into a museum where you can buy the stuff.
