A Short Crust Pastry Apple-Pie Recipe

A sumptuous apple-pie with a short crust pastry base and stewed with fresh stewed apples as a filling.

The way to a man's heart is through his stomach. How appropriate! There couldn't be a better thing than a well baked apple-pie after a sumptuous meal cooked by your partner. But what if she's not there ? Here's the way to go about it.

Ingredients for short crust Pastry.

a)One and a half cup flour.

b)100 gms butter

c) Approximately 1/2 cup cold water

d) A pinch of salt.

Ingredients for filling

a) 7 to 8 medium sized fresh apples

b)1/2 cup water

c)3 tea spoons lemon juice

d) 1/2 cup granulated sugar

e) 1 tea spoon ground spices (Nutmeg and cinnamon)

Method for short crust pastry

Combine flour and salt. Cut in butter until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Lightly mix in cold water a little at a time to form mixture into a firm dough. Refrigerate the dough for some time.

While preparing the pie, roll out dough into a circle a little larger than the pie dish. Fit the dough into the pie dish and cut off excess dough on sides for decoration of pie. Prick the bottom.

Method for filling

Peel and slice apples. Combine apples with water, lemon juice, sugar and spices in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and let it simmer for sometime or until water dries up.

Roll out pastry crust as per the recipe mentioned above and fill in the apple stew in the centre.

Spread evenly in the pie-dish. Roll out the excess dough and cut thin strips to decorate on top of the pie in a criss-cross fashion. Finally glaze the crust with egg-white and dot apple stew with butter. Pinch the sides.

Bake in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 40 to 45 minutes or until pastry is golden brown.

The job is done and you can invite 6 to 8 of your friends to savour the charisma of the apple pie.
