First, I am a big fan of screen porches. They are great in the southern, southwestern climates. They are very, very traditional, and they are very inviting. In building a screen porch, a person wants to suit the roof style of their existing house. They want this to look like it has been there forever, and it belongs in the house. They want to make sure it's wide enough so that they can get a comfortable table and chairs in the porch. You do not want a screen porch that feels crowded. They want to also consider a ceiling fan. They want to consider lighting carefully because it's going to be a living space for them. They may want to use the conventional screen cover on it so that it will seal tightly. The screen cover will keep the birds out. The porch may be a deck. A screen cover is good for the deck floor as well. There will be some rain that will blow in through the screen from time to time. In some climates, you could install removable glass panels. Plexiglas is great to use for the panels. It can be unbuttoned and removed for the summer, but it can still be put in place for the winter.
