There are two techniques for massaging a stiff neck. One simple thing to do is get in the shower and get some really nice warm water flowing on your neck. On the sides of your neck, there is a big muscle that you can see that comes down to the front. Just rub that muscle up and down with the pads of your fingers when the hot water is running on there. Squeeze it, flush it out a little bit and then to do the same thing on the back of your neck. That's very, very simple thing to do. That will help and it's a nice thing to do in a shower because it's really warmed up. And then another thing that people will do is simply grab the upper trapezius muscle, (the muscle up on top of the shoulder and pinch it and then just shift your head to the opposite side and turn your head both directions. After you have pinched those spots, move to another spot and then repeat that. And by either pressing or pinching and then just stretching and turning a little bit, it will take a lot of stress out of there. If you do those two things regularly I think you would find that in general your neck tension would diminish. And neck tension is the source of a lot of people's headaches and things like that. So it can have further effects that aren't obvious on the surface.
