Simple Tips To Preparing Your Home For Thanksgiving

There was a time when you could easily find great home d├ęcor items for Thanksgiving, but that time is now past. These days, stores do not wait for back to school sales to end before they start merchandising for Christmas. This often leaves anyone looking for thanksgiving decorations with little to choose. Here are some simple tips you can use prepare your home for thanksgiving.

Entry: On your door, hang a wreath made from a vine base. Add dried sunflowers, small gourds, and a bow made of a natural material like burlap. Place a new welcome mat at your front door made of a natural material like sisal. If you wish, you can paint a series of sunflowers on your mat. In the entryway of your home, hang a cute little sign that says, "I am thankful for family and friends". Just paint the words on a simple piece of wood and hang it with ribbon.

Windows: Adorn your window treatments will fall foliage. Purchase simple ribbons of gold and orange, and replace your regular tiebacks with these. Into the knot of your new ribbon tiebacks, insert dried fall flowers, and small gourds. Purchase a garland of fall colored leaves and use it to adorn your window topper.

Flowers: Sunflowers and mums are great flowers to bring out the spirit of thanksgiving. Instead of regular vases, try displaying them in hollowed out dried gourds instead. You will need to make sure they are waterproof. Alternatively, you can adorn your vases with ribbon in the same way you dress your window tiebacks. Instead of vases, you may want to display fruit and vegetables in wooden bowls. A bowl of apples, with a few walnuts tossed in, makes a beautiful fall display. On the other hand, you can set out bowl of oranges with cinnamon sticks peeking out from between them to add a wonderful fragrance to your home.

Candles: Purchase candles that smell like spice cake or pumpkin pie. Insert taper candles into your floral arrangements or bowls of fruit, and put pillar candles on your countertops and tables. The most important thing of all that you should do with your candles is to burn them. You should be able to smell the candles without sticking your nose in them.

Table setting: Use a simple linen tablecloth to dress your thanksgiving table. If you wish, you can embroider leaf motifs around the hem. For your centerpiece, use a wire cornucopia filled with dried leaves, fresh fruits and gourds. If you need to use place cards, purchase tiny pumpkins and insert plastic label signs into them. For an informal table, make your own placemats. You can purchase simple gold or orange placemats from the dollar store and paint a leaf or hand print turkey on them.

Mantle: For the finishing touch, you should decorate your mantle in the same way you would for Christmas. Instead of using evergreens, use fall foliage like eucalyptus, pussy willows, and colorful leaves. You can even add blinking lights to your arrangement if you wish.
