What Are Some Simple Ways To Save On Your Energy Bills?

What are some simple ways to save on your energy bills? Adequate insulation is the first thing that you want to do. Using compact flourecent lights will cut down on the wattage, heat and energy consumption of standard light bulbs. Better outside lightbulbs, cocked windows and door sweeps help with energy effic.

There are a couple of things you can do. First, you want to make sure you have adequate installation in your attic. In other words, insulate your home. If you are dealing with harsh winters or very, very hot summers, good insullation provides a great deal of protection, and it keeps the cool and/or the warmth in that structure.

Second, treat your windows. This particularly pertains to a climate such as Texas or any other southern state. If you have an enormous amount of solar exposure coming through the windows, it is going to heat up your house. By having solar screens or films, you are keeping the solar heat from reaching those panes of glass. The heat, usually, transfers immediately into the house or commercial business. Solar screens or solar films are a great option to treat those windows. They will make the house more energy efficient without having to go to the expensive of replacing windows.

Third, change your light bulbs. The prices are becoming more and more reasonable for compact fluorescent replacements for standard and candescent light bulbs. You should replace incandescent bulbs of 60, 75, 100 watts. There are light bulbs now with much smaller watts being used. The compact fluorescent light bulbs can range anywhere from 14, 23, or 26 watts. This will put out a comparable amount of light. However, they are not generating the heat that a 60, 75, 90, or 100 watt light bulb will produce. Overall, you are cutting your energy input and your wattage by 60 to 75 or more percent. This can save you an enormous amount on energy inside of the home.

You can also target outside lamps. For example, some people have porch lights or ornamental lights that they may leave on outside for security purposes. These new light bulbs last up to 10,000 hours. However, standard light bulbs usually last 750 to 1000 hours. This is a huge economic advantage.

Make sure you have door sweeps, and make sure you have cocked windows. Make the property as air tight as you can. However, you cannot make it completely air tight. No one can do that, but at least get the worst defenders sealed up. If you have got the furnace running and you can feel those drafts in the house, then you know that there is something going on there that really needs to be looked at.
The cheapest way is conservation. Do not leave the TV on. Do not leave the dinning room light or chandelier burning. Do not leave the kitchen lights on. You should just cut that stuff off on your way out the door. We do not do it as consistently as we should.
