The Breckenridge Ski Resort brings in about 1.5 million visitors per year and is known for four peaks. Peak 7, 8, 9 and 10 are all a part of the 10 mile range that spans from Frisco to Breckenridge. They offer 95 miles of skiing on 146 trails. In fact this year they are opening the highest ski lift in North America that will go to an elevation of 12,840 feet to the top of Peak 8. You previously had to hike about 45 minutes to get there, so the new lift will give skiers and riders access to intermediate and advanced terrains.
Prices for lift tickets vary from $60-$80 depending on the time of the year. A lift ticket is basically your access to the mountain if it's a full day. Depending on packages, you could bring the price of that down. If you don't have own gear or have to add rentals to that, it could be $25 a day. I can't even tell you how may ski shops there are around here, so renting equipment is not a problem. Lifts are open from 8:30 to 4:30 each day. You save money on lift tickets if you buy multi-day tickets.
Ski season is usually from mid-November to mid or late April. Skiing outside of those times is illegal. There are a few resorts about 20 minutes away that allow you to ski into June or sometimes July. There is also still back country skiing access, but when you get past April, you run the risk of avalanche dangers.
Other things for winter besides traditional skiing include Nordic skiing which is flat. It's more like a ski machine at a gym. We have two Nordic centers that are gorgeous and offer skiing trails and back country trails.
