Skin Care: Tanning Bed Tips For An Even Tone

Learn how to get the best even tan possible when using an indoor tanning device.

Whether you tan indoors or out, we all want to achieve the same results, a beautiful even tan. If you are an active outdoors person with a lot of time on your hands, that should not be so hard to do.However, most of us do not have the luxury of time, so in order to get that beautiful "bronzed" look, we use a tanning salon. What better way can you get a tan in as little as 15 to 20 minutes a day?Now the hard part is getting an even tan. There are two kinds of tanning devices. The first is the horizontal bed and the second is a stand up chamber. Both use the same UVA radiation. In order to get an even tan, the stand up chamber would be the best choice to get that all around tan while eliminating the pressure points that a tanning bed would cause.

The horizontal tanning bed is approximately 10 feet long and 3 feet wide. The bed is similar to that of a coffin and contains approximately 24 to 32 100-watt lamp units that emit UV radiation that causes the skin to tan.Needless to say, there is not a lot of room, which makes it hard to produce an even tan, even though you are practically surrounded my UV lights. In order to get even results you would need to rotate around in the bed.First, lie on your back for about 5 minutes with your arms over your head. Then, roll over onto your stomach for another 5 minutes. Then, turn onto your left side, then onto your right. It does not sound like a very relaxing experience, however if you do not want that zebra look, this is what you would need to do in order to achieve the perfect indoor tan.

The vertical tanning chamber may help alleviate the problems and work associated with the horizontal tanning bed.In a vertical tanning chamber, approximately 50 to 60, 160 to 200 watt UV lights surround you; some units even have lights in the floor, allowing you to get the most even tan possible with less time and no pressure points than with the traditional tanning bed.Every year, more people discover the luxury and convenience of the vertical tanning booth.

Moisturizing is essential to tanning.Dry and flaky skin can most certainly cause an uneven skin tone. Before starting any tanning regimen, it is important to replenish the skins natural oils. Use a moisturizer with vitamins E and C.Vitamin E will help moisturize the skin and may help reduce skin damage caused by the UV rays, and vitamin C helps to gently exfoliate the dead skin cells allowing the skin to breath, while both acting as a powerful antioxidant for the skin.Always moisturize before and after tanning.Radiation emitted by the bulbs is very powerful and can quickly dry your skin.Use a moisturizer that easily absorbs into the skin and one that does not contain mineral oil, preferably a good over the counter-tanning accelerator.
