Basically, any grass that reproduces by rhizomes can be grown into sod. Basically, grass is growing up in a large field and usually it is seeded until it has become established. It is harvested with a tractor and cut in strips and once they have a big row of strips, they cut it every 16 inches and that is what produces the sod. Sod is grown in sod farms all around the United States and most of them are found in the southern United States. There are farms in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and the Gulf Coast area; so pretty much in the lower US is where you can find the sod farms. Sod is most often used in landscapes.
