With all the excitement of planning the wedding reception and all the other elements that go into a wedding, the ceremony itself is sometimes overlooked and not focused upon as the most important piece of the wedding equation. The ceremony, however, can be the most personal and significant part of the entire wedding. When planning the ceremony, there are a number of things to keep in mind in order to ensure that things go smoothly.

Kyle Hayden, the Event Coordinator for Strong Events, which specializes in event decorating and design for theme parties, says organization is the number one requirement for a successful wedding ceremony. He says that if you are very organized, it is not always necessary to have a wedding a planner for the ceremony or other elements of the wedding process, such as the rehearsal dinner. "If you are organized then you can do it yourself," he says.

If you do choose to do the ceremony planning and implementation yourself, you will need to take into consideration everything that will need to be done on the day of the wedding and how your attention will otherwise be diverted on that day. It can help significantly to have friends or family pitch in on the day of the wedding to make sure all the details are being attended to properly. This will require some advance instruction prior to the wedding day. Keeping a list of everything that needs to be done and assigning each task to a particular person is a great way to stay organized and to make sure you have not overlooked any of the details.

Hayden thinks, however, that it can really help if you do have a professional to assist you in planning the wedding ceremony. He says that the professionals have been through the planning of wedding ceremonies a number of times and may be able to point out things of which you may not have thought of. He also points out that weddings can be very emotional, so it could be easy for the bride and her mother to get overwhelmed with all of the details: "They are trying to get people in from the airport or they are trying to deal with all the other things, and sometimes a lot of these small details get overlooked. A wedding planner or coordinator can really help you and make sure that those details don't get overlooked and you have a smooth transition."

Often times, your wedding venue may have a resident wedding planner, whether your wedding will be held at a religious house of worship, at a destination resort, or at any other common wedding venue. These people should know all of the ins and outs of a wedding ceremony at that particular location and can assist you in the planning process as well as be in attendance on the wedding day to ensure that everything goes as planned.

Throughout the wedding ceremony planning process the key is to stay organized. This applies whether you are planning the ceremony yourself or are working with a wedding professional. Once your wedding day arrives, you will be glad that you took the time to plan in advance and stay organized throughout the process.
