A list of South Africa's National Parks; this excludes GAME RESERVES of which there are plenty in South Africa.
BONTEBOK NATIONAL PARK
The Bontebok National Park is situated in the town of Swellendam, in the Western Cape, South Africa. It is named after the antelope called the Bontebok, which was an endangered species in the 1920s. Since the Bontebok National Park was established in 1960, the antelope are thriving. There are many other species of buck in this park.
TSITSIKAMA COASTAL NATIONAL PARK
Tsitsikama is a word derived from the Khoikhoi word, meaning clear or sparkling water. It is known for its botanical treasures as well as wildlife such as elephants, leopards, monkeys and a large variety of birds.
AUGRABIES FALL NATIONAL PARK
Augrabies is another Khoikhoi word meaning "place of great noise". A spectacular waterfall plunges down high cliffs. During the rainy season, 19 waterfalls spill into the gorge.
ADDO ELEPHANT PARK
Home to the Addo elephant which is much smaller than the African Elephant. The Addo Elephant is reddish in colour and the females do not have tusks.
MOUNTAIN ZEBRA NATIONAL PARK
The Mountain Zebra is still an endangered species and is one of the rarest animals on earth.
SEHLABATHEBE NATIONAL PARK
Situated in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
ROYAL NATAL NATIONAL PARK
This majestic park has a spectacular series of breathtaking waterfalls.
SODWANA BAY NATIONAL PARK
Sodwana Bay is home to numerous birds, red squirrels, mongoose, buck and bush pigs.
GOLDEN GATES HIGHLANDS NATIONAL PARK
The Golden Gates is a mountain range; the sandstone was shaped by water into spectacular formations of steep cliffs, caves and rock shelters.
KALAHARI GEMSBOK NATIONAL PARK
Half of the Kalahari Gemsbok area is situated in South Africa - the other half is in Botswana, a neighbouring country. Wild life abound in this area, with Springbok and other types of antelope, cheetah, hyena, ostriches and foxed being the more common.
KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
The largest and the best national park in South Africa, and quite probably the most magnificent national park for wildlife in the world. When it was founded in 1898, it was the very first time that a wildlife sanctuary had ever been formed and till today it is regarded as prototype for wildlife sanctuaries throughout the world.
